What travel location is on your bucket list this year?
If time allows, I would love to visit Peru.
What do you look for in an artwork when deciding to showcase it in
your gallery?
I co-run the gallery with my husband, and we are often in dialogue as
to how to find artists who inspire us. He is a true Master of Research
and I do not say that lightly. He regularly uncovers underappreciated
artists and techniques that are far beyond their time and our wheels
just start spinning. We are decisive in what we like and look for
artists who are deeply grounded in their practice while maintaining an
insatiable curiosity.
How do you see the role of art in society, and what impact do you
hope your gallery has on the local community?
Art’s superpower is its innate ability to upend polarized modes of
thinking and our gallery hopes to further highlight those nuanced,
in-between spaces that often go overlooked.
What is your favorite coffee shop in Los Angeles?
I’m a big fan of La Colombe. I love a good dark roast, but I’ve
learned through trial and error that it’s not a very “trendy” flavor! It’s
sadly hard to find especially when I’m craving coffee that just tastes
like coffee. La Colombe *gets me*.
What is your favorite hotel in Los Angeles?
The Langham Huntington in Pasadena! It’s a spectacular example of Spanish Mission Revival and I love the vastness of the property grounds. It’s rare to see a hotel quite like this in Los Angeles and the fact that you can borrow a bike and tour the surrounding neighborhoods really presents a unique experience. You only need to go there once for it to sear itself in your memory.
