Lisa Solomon is on a mission to empower women's health through The Studio MDR. The word on the street is it is one of the most challenging classes in Socal. This energetic lady will capture your heart within the first moments of meeting her. |
What keeps you motivated? My husband, dogs, family & friends, The Studio (MDR) … the inner rewards that I reap in my role of making people healthy, happy, and feeling loved daily makes me live a better, more fulfilling life. What is your favorite indulgence? Honestly, any kind of thin-crust, Margherita pizza with artichokes – delish! What room in the house do you think is the most important? The bedroom – where each morning I am thankful for opening my eyes another day and the best place to lay my head at night. What is your favorite fitness brand? How did you get started in your business? About 15 years ago when I was in entertainment, I was ready for a change. I wrote a business plan to open a clothing store BUT it was during a recession, and it just didn’t make financial sense. I thought to myself what do people continue to do in times like this, especially in Los Angeles? They eat, drink and workout! I was working out several times a week at a studio and loved it. One thing led to another, and I decided to take a chance and follow my passion. I started with a clear vision and figured out how to make it happen one day at a time and opened my first studio January 3, 2011 to full classes. Today we have 5! |
What are you watching now on TV? Ted Lasso and any FBI-esque show. I may have been an FBI agent in a past life. Wallpaper – especially what we just installed in the powder room of our new home in Manhattan Beach by ARTE wallcoverings. What is your favorite lunch spot in Manhattan Beach? The Health Nut. Wish I could have one next to every Studio (MDR). What is your secret weapon? What is your favorite architectural style? What is your favorite restaurant for dinner in Los Angeles? |
What are your favorite linens/ bedding? Parachute for sheets and Kassatex for towels and bath accessories What is the most difficult part of your profession? Managing people and work-life balance. Santa Ynez for a quick drive or Cabo for a quick flight from LA, Amalfi coast, Capri What are you reading now? I just started reading Setting the Table by Danny Meyer. He is all about hospitality and taking care of people – two of the things I strive to do in my business daily. Favorite thing to do in LA on a Sunday? Peonies – beautiful, bright, happy flowers |

La Dolce Vita: the finishings are just the beginning! Now that we know where to work off the cals, let’s look at an exciting new restaurant re-opening! It’s a welcome mix of old + new, where you’ll want to celebrate both milestones as well as their delicious menu. Welcome back, La Dolce Vita! Classic old-world dining combined with a dash of flash has returned to Beverly Hills in this restored, sexy all-booth dining room. Originally founded in 1966 (and partially funded by Frank Sinatra himself), La Dolce Vita showcases old-school hospitality while Chef Nick Russo’s traditional red-sauce menu appeals to a modern-day palette. In this new iteration, La Dolce Vita makes a stunning first impression with its bold and bossy front door. Once inside, you’re greeted in classic style by the inimitable and handsome General Manager, Christos Kalabogias, You‘re instantly surrounded by robust design choices, from the Lounge’s cheetah print carpet and green & walnut bar to the Dining Room’s plush deep red booths and crisp white tablecloths. You’ll soon be singing “Fly Me to the Moon.” Ensconced in our comfy booth and with dry Martinis in-hand, my dinner companions and I were treated like royalty. Our waiter, dressed in a Denis Frison-designed uniform, presented a bread basket with light and airy tomato focaccia that might be the best I’ve ever had. Next, our waiter crafted a peppery Caesar Salad table-side, evoking Old Hollywood before our very eyes and making us forget we had ordered mere lettuce. On an earlier visit, I had the chopped salad, and it is my new fav in the salad department. LDV’s Big Eye Tuna Tartare, with capers, Meyer lemon and tonnato was a perfect second spicy course, a combination of rich and creamy flavors, not too filling as we knew our entrees were fast approaching. When you’ve got four diners at the table, there’s no conflict in choosing entrees to share: the famous manicotti for 4, and the NY Strip Steak were no-brainers and big winners. We lustily spied on our neighbor’s Bone in Veal Parm but had to stop somewhere so we could return soon with stomachs as big as our eyes. And return we will! Like a timeless film that everyone cherishes, you’ll be thrilled that this legend of a restaurant is back and at the top of the queue. |
